Slut Shaming: Is it Necessary? (HyunA Edition)

First let me start out with the definition of “SLUT”

Slut or slattern is a term applied to an individual who is considered to have loose sexual morals or who is sexually promiscuous. The term is generally pejorative and most often used as an insult, sexual slur or offensive term of disparagement, meaning "dirty or slovenly". [2] However, in recent times there have been attempts to "reclaim" the word, while some individuals embrace the title as a source of pride (Wikipedia)

Now the Definition of “SLUT SHAMING”
Slut shaming (also hyphenated, as slut-shaming) is a concept in philosophy on sexuality. It is a neologism used to describe the act of making any person feel guilty or inferior for certain sexual behaviors or desires that deviate from traditional or orthodox gender expectations or that which may be considered to be contrary to natural or religious law. Some examples of behaviors over which women are said to be "slut-shamed" include: violating accepted dress codes by dressing in sexually provocative ways, requesting access to birth control, [1] [2][3] having premarital or casual sex, or being raped or sexually assaulted (Wikipedia )

There is a reason why I put the definition of both. I want each reader to understand and see what exactly the definition of a slut is and why it is used so often when referring to a woman. I want the reader to understand that what they are doing is considered “Slut Shaming”.

As you can see from the title, this article is about the Kpop artist HyunA.  It seems lately that she is often attacked and the word used to attack her is the word “Slut”.  Frankly I am sick and tired of the word being missed used and also it is used to attack, bully, or demoralize a person.  It actually makes me cringe when I hear the word being used especially when it’s used on a person that is far from being a “slut”. I know most people would say “Why are you defending her?” or “She is one because she does…..”  But think about it people.  How are you able to say such things about a person when you don’t know her, when she doesn’t like her concept, and also when she is stuck with this concept because she signed a contract?

I recently read articles about her latest MV with her Trouble Maker partner Hyunseung (BEAST) (http://www.soompi.com/2013/10/31/hyuna-i-felt-shy-filming-intimate-scenes-with-hyunseung/#.UpvjCKoo7IW). In the article she stated how shy she was being intimate with Hyunseung. She was not comfortable with it but this is their job, their concept and because of their chemistry they are perfect for the job.  When hearing her talk like this and seeing him when she is not doing this concept she has this cute adorable side to her. She is totally opposite of her concept image. This is an image she doesn’t like and even had to explain to people who constantly are attacking her because people truly believe that this is who she really is. Believe me when I say that woman who are comfortable with their sexuality will put it out there and say “This is who I am accept me” I see it all the time. Yet this girl is not claiming this at all. If she had her say she would want to do something cute. I can even see her doing something along the lines of cute and romantic but hey you can only follow orders.

Yes, the one thing that people fail to notice is she has no say really. If she does it better have something to do with her current image because if not the CEO will most likely refuse to listen.  People really must think the life of a kpop artist or any type of music artist is so easy. But yet the ones constantly attacking a person would not be able to handle half the things these people have to go through. HuyunA has no choice. Once that pen hits the paper and she signs her name basically she is signing a contract with the Devil himself. Why? Because once you sign the company can do whatever they want with you. They can make you into anything that “THEY” see fit. Meaning her CEO wanted this image for her and now she is stuck with it. http://www.kpopstarz.com/articles/47238/20131029/who-s-casting-the-stone-sexier-hyuna-trouble-maker.htm

The point that her CEO had to basically say “HEY!!! HELLO!!! It was our idea” tell you something. No offense but the CEO is bit of a pervert. Because if you see this recent MV and he said that this was what he wanted? Seriously this is as close to porn as you can get. Don’t they consider this along the lines of soft porn?  I am not a porn expert. I don’t watch the stuff but I know there are people out there that would know more about the different levels of porn.  But believe me if they were allowed to take it father then yes this would be a porno. But no way would society let it go that far.  But this is what she has to constantly put up with. And though we may speculate that the 2HyunA’s are dating in the end we should worry less about that a worry that maybe the ones you need to be angry with is the company themselves. I hate to see a young ladies image dragged through the mud because her company wants to push sex on everyone.  She isn’t the only one that has to go through this but she is at least in the top 5 if not #1 in being called a “slut” constantly.

Well this is all I am writing for now. But this is something to think about. Remember when you are slut shaming you are hurting other HUMANS. Yes this woman and others are not queens or goddesses. They are human like you and me. So the next time you are using the word slut think about what you are saying and stop yourself.
